Jazzie was approximately a 3 year old 2.2 kg female Chihuahua who was found walking the streets and picked up by a person who brought her into a shelter. She then spent a little time at a rescue. She was adopted by her mum on May 5th 2019. She was the quietest, sweetest little girl, who cleary showed signs that she had a difficult start in life. She thrived in her new home and loved her new life, her new family and especially her big older furbrother Dexter a Chihuahua cross. In March 2021 her mum noticed something wasn't quiet right with Jazzie, she was walking in a very strange way. The local vet ran tests, nothing showed up. Jazzie was declining and was not the same dog. She was very flat would just sit and stare, walking became even more difficult, she couldn't walk up a step. Jazzie was referred to a neurologist.
She had a CT, spinal tap and a number of tests, she stayed in ICU for a few days. The result, Jazzie had an auto immune condition. This meant that she would be on two different types of medication, twice a day for the rest of her life as well as daily home physio and massage twice a week. Due to the damage caused and her condition being permanent Jazzie would never live or have a "normal life" she was now a dog with special needs. She had problems walking, she couldn't walk straight, would bump into things and would often fall over, but it didn't stop her she would just get up and keep going, despite all the challenges she faced her tail was always wagging. In December 2021 Jazzie had a relapse and spent a few days in ICU. The relapse caused Jazzie's condition to worsen, she had more challenges and struggles. But still she did the best she could, still loved life and her tail continued to wag. The way that tail would wag non stop you wouldn't know she had such a serious condition. Her mum gave up full time work as Jazzie couldn't be alone for too long. Her mum worked two jobs a few hours in the mornings home most of the day then off to another job for a few hours at night. Her mum became her part time carer.
In August 2022 Jazzie had another relapse. Her mum knew that Jazzie most likely wouldn't survive this one. Again Jazzie spent time in ICU. She went home, couldn't walk at all, the specialists thought she would walk again, it would take a week or so. She struggled with all parts of life. For 2 weeks, her mum would wake up every 2 hours to turn her, give her water, take her to the toilet. Jazzie was now totally reliant on her mum who was now Jazzie's full time carer. Although Jazzie would still wag her tail especially when she saw her mum or heard her voice, loved to eat, sit outside enjoy the sun, watch her brother her quality of life began to decline and Jazzie started showing signs she was in pain. As soon as this happened Her mum knew it was time and made the heartbreaking decision
On the 30th of August 2022 Jazzie crossed the rainbow bridge, she was approximately 6 years young. Whilst in her mothers arms taking her last breath her mum promised Jazzie that she would continue her work with rescue dogs, but would focus on special needs dogs and that Jazzie's memory would live on, she promised that she would adopt a special needs dog. That's how Jazzie's Gift came about. Her gift is helping dogs with special needs. The money that would have gone towards Jazzie's ongoing medical bills and treatment now goes towards Jazzie's Gift "Supporting Dogs With Special Needs"
